Short answer: The official dartboard distance is 2,37 meters from the throwline to the dartboard. The correct height of the bullseye is 1,73 meters from the ground. Following these measurements ensures consistent throws and more accurate dart results.
The dartboard distance, also known as the darts distance, is the space between the throwline and the dartboard. According to the official rules, this distance is fixed and should always be the same. Even small differences in distance can affect your throw and lead to inconsistent results.
Many players underestimate how important the correct setup is. Throwing from a shorter or longer distance changes your angle, timing and overall control. If you want to improve your consistency, setting up your dartboard correctly is the first step.
The official dartboard distance is 2,37 meters (7 feet 9¼ inches). This is measured from the front of the dartboard to the throwline, also known as the oche.
If you have enough space at home, it is important to stick to this exact distance. Dart clubs and professional tournaments always use these measurements, which allows players to build consistent muscle memory.
A common mistake is measuring from the wall instead of the board itself. Always measure from the front of the dartboard to ensure accuracy.
The correct dartboard height is just as important as the distance. The bullseye must be positioned at 1,73 meters (5 feet 8 inches) from the ground.
This height is standardized across all official competitions. If your dartboard is too high or too low, it will directly affect your throw and accuracy.
Combining the correct height with the official distance ensures that your setup matches professional conditions as closely as possible.
The official dartboard measurements have a direct impact on your performance. Distance and height influence your throwing angle, release timing and overall consistency.
If you regularly practice on incorrect measurements, you build habits that will not translate well to matches or competitions. This often results in missed targets and unstable grouping.
By following the official setup, you create a reliable foundation for improving your technique and scoring.
Once your dartboard is set up correctly, you can mark the throwing distance using an oche or a dart mat.
An oche is a raised throwline that ensures you always stand at the correct distance. A dart mat is placed on the floor and often includes a printed throwline, making it an easy and practical solution for home setups.
Both options help you maintain consistency and prevent stepping over the line during your throw.
Professional players always train and compete using official measurements. This allows them to develop a consistent throwing rhythm and reliable technique.
Players like Michael van Gerwen rely on repetition and precision. Their setup never changes, which helps them perform at the highest level under pressure.
If you want to improve your game, following the same setup is a simple but effective step.
Setting up your dartboard with the correct distance and height is essential for consistent performance. By following the official measurements of 2,37 meters distance and 1,73 meters height, you create the ideal conditions to improve your throw.
If you want to take your game seriously, start with the basics. A correct setup leads to better accuracy, more consistency and stronger overall performance.
