Active in the darts scene for years, many tournaments or prizes to their name, or always to be found at the board: the experienced darts player has already dedicated a lot of time to his passion. For beginners, finding the right material is still difficult, but the darts professional already knows what he likes to throw. Are you curious what we recommend to players of this level and which darts are the best professional darts? Then read on!
For the darts professional player, cost is often not the biggest factor. Most darts players know how much time they put into the sport and therefore also what they think is worth spending on darts. As explained earlier in Buying Darts for Beginners, certain more expensive materials are more suitable for darters who have found their feet in the sport. Professional steel tip darts with high tungsten percentages are often the way to go once you've played enough games to find your style and preference. There are no specific dart weights used by pros, because that is all connected to your personal throwing style.
For the most defining component, the barrel, that comes down to a Tungsten barrel with a ratio starting at 90% Tungsten. This is a heavier material, allowing barrels to stay at the same weight with less material. This keeps the barrel thinner and allows darts to be thrown closer together. The higher the percentage of tungsten, the thinner the barrel can remain while at the same weight. However, this can lead to a higher cost! Some players prefer to play with different kinds of barrels, such as the bomber or the torpedo barrel. There are several barrel shapes available, each with their own advantages depending on grip and throwing style. In the video at the bottom of this page, we highlight the most common barrel shapes and explain the differences between them.
Then there are the shafts. For beginning players nylon shafts are recommended, but as an avid dart player you will soon want to switch to metal shafts. Aluminum shafts, carbon shafts or titanium shafts are your best friend here. These are lighter materials, while carbon and titanium still remain incredibly strong. Of course, these are also on the pricier side than nylon and other plastic shafts.
Dart flights also have options that are mainly for experienced players. Instead of the usual 110 micron nylon flights you can look for a higher or lower micron count. On top of the more expensive options, there are also molded flights & shafts. For example, the L-Style Flights. These flights are molded to a standard 90 degree angle and offer excellent consistency in their flight patterns and can be seen as professional dart flights.
Condor even goes one step further, offering shafts & flights in one piece. These exceptional parts are particularly useful if you are a dart player who already knows how to throw and you want to raise your skill level.
In conclusion, there are no specific best darts for professionals or "professional tungsten darts", and practically anything that is not meant as a beginner model can count as 'professional'. It all depends on your personal preference and the way you play darts.
